My Grandmothers

Today I got to read a blog about a Norwegian grandma, and I thought of my own grandmas. I'll write about them...

Grandma Riney: Her real name was Carrie Melissa Stover Rinehart. She was my mom's mom, and from the time I can remember she was in a wheelchair. She'd had strokes which left her paralyzed on her right side. Even so, she did cross-stitch with her non-dominant left hand and I have two of those stitched items.

My earliest memories of Grandma Riney are of her and me playing on her wheelchair. I'd make little animal sounds, like kittens or puppies. Then we'd pretend to find the hidden animals, and I'd hop off to find them. When I "found" this lost kitty or puppy, I'd bring it to Grandma and tuck it into her lap shawl. We'd make sure it was going to stay, then I'd wheel her along until I heard another animal. That lap shawl got very full before we'd quit.
